UK independent's name will survive

The name of fuel supplier Samuel Cooke will survive, although under new ownership after a last-minute rescue deal.

The leading independent fuel supplier in the North West of England went into administration on 23 July this year after more than 170 as an operating business in the UK.  Not wishing to see the name and reputation of the company disappear, another British distributor - Crown Oil - acquired Cooke's key assets to keep the name alive.

Crown Oil, part of the family-owned Crown Group, has set up a new division - Cooke Fuels and Lubricants Ltd - and has taken on Cooke's Padiham distribution site, one of three previously owned by Samuel Cooke, as well as a number of employees from the business.

Cooke specialised in the distribution of engine oils and industrial fluids, which will now be incorporated into Crown's fuel blending and delivery business which includes distribution of Kuwait Petroleum products, branded as Q8Oils in the UK.

According to Crown Group MD, Matt Greensmith: "The Samuel Cooke name dates from 1845 and is associated with good service so we will continue to trade on this while assuring all existing customers close attention and service."
